In Nassau County, the Uniondale School District faced a staffing and student shortage, and the number required to quarantine led to a host of fresh absences, Superintendent Monique Darrisaw-Akil said.
Due to the number of outages, officials announced that the district’s secondary schools - the Uniondale High School, Turtle Hook Middle School, and Lawrence Road Middle School - would be going remote through the end of the week ending on Friday, Jan. 14.
During the break, staff was scheduled to report to the buildings daily and provide remote instruction to students working from home.
“Grab & Go” lunches were made available at each school from 9 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Jan. 12, through Jan. 14. Students are expected to return to in-person learning as of Monday, Jan. 17.
According to the New York State COVID-19 “Report Card,” as of Tuesday, Jan. 11 there have been a total of 471 - 329 students, 102 teachers, 40 staff members - positive cases of the virus reported in the Uniondale School District.
